Water Damage Restoration in West Deer Township

Water damage restoration in West Deer Township starts with a phone that gets answered. If a basement in Russellton, Curtisville, or Bairdford is filling right now, you need a crew moving. Un-Flood-It runs out of 214 Ross Street in Tarentum, and West Deer is our next-door neighbor to the west, straight out Saxonburg Boulevard. We answer 24/7, a person picks up, and our crews are close. Call (412) 226-9468 now.

West Deer is a big township, about 29 square miles and 12,262 people at the 2020 census, in the northeast corner of Allegheny County. It was carved out of Deer Township in 1836 and named for Chief Deer, a sub-chief under the Iroquois leader Guyasuta. The economy here was farming and coal, and that coal is still in the ground under a lot of homes.

Who handles water damage in West Deer Township

We do, from right next door. Un-Flood-It has pulled water out of homes since December 2009, owned by Brian Marra, who also owns the plumbing company 1-Tom-Plumber Pittsburgh. Our technicians are IICRC certified, and we carry PA Home Improvement Contractor License #PA080868.

West Deer sits on the list of every Allegheny County township our Tarentum crews reach. The same trucks handle water damage help from our Tarentum home base, a few minutes east of you, and basement flood cleanup over in Allison Park and water damage crews up Route 8 in Gibsonia on the township's western side.

Why West Deer homes take on water

Start with the coal patches. Russellton, Curtisville, and Bairdford were all built to house coal miners. Russellton was two towns, Russellton No. 1 and No. 2, named for the mines. The No. 1 mine opened around 1904 under the Bessemer Coal and Coke Company, No. 2 came about 13 years later, and both ran as captive mines for Republic Steel until LTV closed No. 2 in 1982. Curtisville was three towns named for three mines, and Curtisville No. 3 is now Bairdford. The patch houses are still here, duplexes built fast a century ago on foundations that were never meant to be dry basements.

Then the ground under them. The state's underground mine map for West Deer Township shows mined-out seams under the Bairdford and Deer Creek Valley areas. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection estimates more than 1 million homes in the state sit over abandoned mine workings, and standard homeowners policies do not cover ground collapse from mines. When ground settles, foundations crack, and a cracked foundation is a path for groundwater.

Then the creeks. Deer Creek runs through the township and joins the Allegheny River at Harmar, and Little Deer Creek feeds it from the Russellton side. Deer Lakes Park, 1,180 acres of county park in West Deer and Frazer townships, holds three spring-fed lakes above those valleys. In August 2013, the township manager said overflow from the park lakes drains onto state roads with drainage that cannot handle it. That same week, the shopping center lot on Little Deer Creek Road in Russellton went under water, crews blocked the corner of Little Deer Creek Road and Creighton-Russellton Road as water rose, and the 2100 block of Saxonburg Boulevard was closed for flooding.

Then the sewers. The Deer Creek Drainage Basin Authority, based on Little Deer Creek Valley Road in Russellton, runs sanitary sewer service for West Deer, Indiana, Hampton, and Harmar townships. The authority itself warns that wipes and grease build clogs that cause overflows. When a storm fills those lines, the lowest floor drain in the neighborhood is where it shows up. That water is contaminated. It needs sewage cleanup, not a shop vac.

The big storms reach here too. In September 2004, the remnants of Hurricane Ivan dropped 5.95 inches on Pittsburgh in a day. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh ranks it the most rain ever recorded there in one day. And winter brings the other kind of water. The storm on January 24 and 25, 2026 came with forecasts of 10 to 14 inches of snow and warnings to winterize pipes. A frozen line in a 1920s patch house wall can run for hours before anyone hears it.

Water where it should not be?

We answer 24/7, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Getting our crew to West Deer Township

Most water losses cannot wait for a callback, so we run around the clock, weekends and holidays included. From Tarentum we roll out Saxonburg Boulevard, Route 1013, with extraction and drying gear on the truck. Russellton is 15076, Bairdford is 15006, Curtisville is 15032, and the township office sits in the 15024 Cheswick ZIP. All of it is minutes from our door.

Speed is physics, not a sales line. Water wicks up drywall by the hour and soaks into subfloor and framing. Pull it out fast and you save the material. Wait a day and you replace it.

Dry is a number, not a feeling

We do not pack up when the floor feels dry. We pack up when the meters say it is dry. We map the moisture first, including the water hiding in walls and under floors. We extract the standing water with high-powered pumps, set air movers and dehumidifiers, and sanitize when the loss calls for it. Then a final inspection confirms the structure is back to safe moisture levels. A floor can feel dry to your hand while the subfloor under it still reads soaked.

Water, sewage, and mold are all we do. If creek water or a backed-up drain came up through a basement floor, treat it as dirty and stay out of it. That water calls for sewage backup cleanup for West Deer basements, and we show up with the right gear on the truck. Standing water left too long grows mold in a day or two, so we also handle mold remediation when a loss sat wet. We do not sell fire restoration, rebuilds, or plumbing repair.

The paperwork runs alongside the pumps. We photograph and log the loss as we work, then bill your insurance company directly. You still choose who does the work. It is your claim.

Frequently asked questions

How soon can a crew get to my home in West Deer Township?

As fast as we can get a truck moving, and West Deer is next door to our Tarentum base. We answer 24/7, a real person picks up, and we roll with extraction and drying gear on board. Water does the most damage in its first hours, so a middle-of-the-night call gets the same response as a call at noon.

Why do basements in Russellton and Curtisville flood?

Because the patch houses sit on old foundations over mined-out ground, and the creek valleys below Deer Lakes Park catch runoff the road drains cannot handle. Officials said so in 2013 when Little Deer Creek Road and Saxonburg Boulevard both went under. We pump it out, dry the structure, and tell you straight what can be saved.

Do you handle sewage backups in West Deer Township?

Yes. Sewage backup is one of our core services. West Deer drains into the Deer Creek Drainage Basin Authority system with three other townships, and when a storm fills those lines, a basement floor drain can push back. That water is contaminated, so we arrive with the right gear, pull the water, and sanitize before we dry.

Do you bill my insurance company directly?

Yes. We document the loss as we work, then bill your insurance company directly. Your policy and the cause of the loss decide what is covered.

Do you cover both homes and businesses in West Deer Township?

Yes. The same crew handles houses, apartments, and commercial buildings across West Deer, from the Russellton shopping center to the newer plans on the township's west side, including larger losses. Not sure your situation fits? Call and describe it, or reach our West Deer water damage crew.

Water does not wait, and neither do we. Call (412) 226-9468, any hour, any day.
